Elton John Hints at a New Album Through Letters to Fans

Elton John has hinted at an upcoming album through personalized letters sent to his fans. Over the past few weeks, these letters have reportedly been shared with superfans, outlining his future plans and suggesting that new music is on the way.

As noted in screenshots shared on fan forums and reported by Clash, John described his experience working with Brandi Carlile, which began when she invited him to play piano on one of her songs. He expressed that their connection was immediate, both emotionally and musically, and he considered their friendship to be one of the most meaningful in his life.

Following the conclusion of his farewell tour in 2023, John took the opportunity to create a new album, starting with a blank notepad and collaborating with a group of renowned session musicians. Alongside Carlile, he worked with his longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin and producer Andrew Watt to craft what he described as a deeply collaborative project influenced by their shared musical inspirations. The process resulted in 14 songs written over 20 days, with 10 of them set to appear on the final album.

John reflected on the experience, saying he had pushed himself creatively, striving to improve his playing, singing, and songwriting. He acknowledged the challenges involved but felt immense pride in the final result. His decision to work with Carlile stemmed from his admiration for her talent, believing their collaboration would be something truly special.

Recently, John and Carlile released Never Too Late, a song written for a documentary of the same name. Reports from late 2023 suggested that the two had already completed a full album together.

John’s most recent album, The Lockdown Sessions, was released in 2021 and featured collaborations with various artists, including Dua Lipa on Cold Heart. His last collection of entirely original material, Wonderful Crazy Night, came out in 2016.

Despite retiring from touring, John had previously reassured fans that his creative energy remained strong. However, he also shared that a severe eye condition had made the songwriting process more difficult, admitting that he struggled to read lyrics and had even lost his eyesight.

In October, he spoke candidly about the toll his health issues had taken, saying he felt as though there was little of him left following multiple surgeries. Nevertheless, later that month, he made a surprise appearance at Dua Lipa’s concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
