Eminem Bought a Bored Ape NFT That Resembles Himself for $450,000

Eminem’s keen interest in non-fungible tokens (NFTs), has led him to spend thousands on a Bored Ape artwork that bears a resemblance to himself. According to cryptocurrency news site Decrypt, Eminem spent a whopping 123.45 Ethereum, which translates to around $450,000 (£334,000) for the Ape artwork which was previously owned by Twitter user @Gee__Gazza, who tweeted on  1st January that he had sold the NFT to Eminem himself. It’s currently the profile picture of Eminem’s official Twitter account.

The artwork showcases an ape with white fur, wearing a low grey hat, a gold jacket and matching chains. Upon selling the NFT, @Gee_Gazza expressed his disbelief at the exchange. View the tweet below:

Decrypt reported that the artwork is one of 15 NFTs bought by Eminem, with the site noting an OpenSea account with the handle @Shady_Holdings. Eminem is one of several celebrities to own an NFT distributed by the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Others include Jimmy Fallon, basketballer Steph Curry and Eminem’s ‘Up In Smoke’ tourmate Snoop Dogg.

This is the multi-platinum rapper’s newest business venture, following the opening of the Mom’s Spaghetti restaurant in his hometown of Detroit last year, as well as a new line of clothing and action figures. Ozzy Osbourne just announced his own NFT collection, CryptoBatz, last week.
