Eric Church has returned with his first solo track in three years, ‘Darkest Hour’, a powerful and heartfelt song dedicated to his home state of North Carolina. In a statement, Church announced that all publishing royalties from the song will be donated to support those affected by recent disasters in the region.
‘Darkest Hour’ delivers a soulful and hopeful message, featuring Church's signature smoky vocals. The track's lyrics reflect resilience and unwavering support, with Church singing, "In your darkest hour, baby I’d come runnin’ / In your darkest hour, I’d light your way." The country star explained that the song holds special meaning for those currently facing hardship.

Church shared that parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, and beyond have been devastated by recent events, particularly the mountains of Western North Carolina. He described the destruction as "biblically gone" and emphasised the importance of helping family, friends, and neighbours in these challenging times.
Originally, Church had planned to release new music next year, but he felt compelled to share ‘Darkest Hour’ sooner due to the circumstances. "It didn't feel right to wait with this song," he said.
The message of coming to someone's aid in their darkest moments resonated deeply with him during this period of recovery. Beyond immediate relief efforts, Church hopes the song will provide ongoing support and comfort to those affected.
He dedicated the track to the unsung heroes who step up during tough times, offering hope and guidance when it's needed most. "This song goes to my home, North Carolina, now and forever," Church declared, highlighting the enduring impact of ‘Darkest Hour’ on those in need.
