George Clooney Admits to Pranking Tom Cruise as Brad Pitt
During George Clooney’s appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’, the actor shared his fondness for pranking fellow stars by sending letters that appear to be from other famous people, including Bill Clinton and his Wolfs co-star, Brad Pitt.
Clooney revealed, “Every actor I know I’ve sent a letter from Bill Clinton,” explaining that host Jimmy Kimmel once gifted him fake stationery from Clinton and Pitt. Clooney then admitted to using the stationery to prank other actors with humorous messages.

One of his most notable pranks involved Don Cheadle and Tom Cruise. Clooney sent Cruise a letter pretending to be Brad Pitt, stating they were planning to film ‘Interview with the Vampire 2’ and that Pitt wanted to play Lestat. He also pranked Meryl Streep, sending her a box of CDs for dialect training, claiming they helped him with his accent in ‘Troy’.
Clooney shared how the prank on Cruise unfolded. “Brad said that Tom called him and said, ‘Yeah, it’s cool, you can play Lestat, I’m okay with that,’ and Brad had no idea what he was talking about.” When Kimmel asked if people quickly catch on to his pranks, Clooney laughed, admitting, “There’s usually some guess involved with me. Somehow, they figured it out.”
Clooney further reflected on his notorious prankster reputation, comparing it to “having nuclear weapons” because everyone is terrified of what he might do. He even recounted how a show tried to prank him but all his friends warned them against it, joking, “He could put a dead body in my apartment.”
Clooney’s love for pranks extends to his work, as he confessed to winding up director Jon Watts before he pitched Brad Pitt for their action-comedy ‘Wolfs’. His playful antics continue to make him a beloved figure among his co-stars and friends.
