George RR Martin Reacts to New ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff
George R.R. Martin, renowned for his epic fantasy series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, has voiced enthusiastic support for HBO’s upcoming spinoff, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’. Known for his candid opinions, Martin has offered high praise for the new project, which is set to premiere on HBO in 2025.
Martin visited the set in Northern Ireland and was impressed by what he saw. “The cast is fantastic. Dunk and Egg look as if they’ve walked out of the pages of my book. My readers are going to love them, and I certainly do.

Showrunner Ira Parker is doing a great job,” Martin stated. His comments come in sharp contrast to his previous criticism of ‘House of the Dragon’, which he had expressed on his now-deleted blog.
While Martin had initially raised concerns about ‘House of the Dragon’, particularly regarding the omission of Prince Maelor Targaryen from the series, he has refrained from discussing these issues in relation to the new spinoff.
He suggested that the absence of Maelor Targaryen might have implications for the final seasons of the original series, hinting at potential changes and consequences.
In response to Martin’s critiques, the creators of ‘House of the Dragon’ have defended their choices, noting that adapting a book to television often necessitates alterations to fit the format and audience expectations. Despite these disagreements, Martin has praised the spinoff’s tone and the creative team behind it, expressing confidence in its upcoming execution.
