(G)I-DLE Unveil New Identity and Tease Two Upcoming Albums

K-pop group (G)I-DLE have officially kicked off a new chapter by unveiling a rebrand and changing their name to i-dle. The announcement came on 1st May via their social media platforms, coinciding with the group’s seventh anniversary. The group explained that the “(G)”—originally representing “girls”—has been removed as part of their desire to move beyond traditional gender labels.

Alongside the name change, i-dle revealed plans for two new mini-albums. The first release is scheduled for later today at 6pm KST (9am GMT) and includes a teaser for a track titled for (G), which appears to reimagine their debut single LATATA as a remix. The second mini-album is slated for release on 19th May.

This rebrand follows confirmation from CUBE Entertainment in April that the group would return in May, after all five members renewed their contracts with the agency late last year.

i-dle’s last group project was ‘I Sway’, a mini-album released in July 2024 featuring the title track Klaxon. That release came after their January full-length album, which earned them the Record of the Year Grand Prize at the 2024 Melon Music Awards.

In the months since, members have pursued solo ventures. Minnie released her debut solo EP ‘Her’ earlier this year, collaborating with Yuqi on the track ‘Drive U Crazy’ and featuring NCT’s ‘Ten on Obsession’. Yuqi also put out her own digital single, ‘Radio (Dum-Dum)’, in March.

The group’s transformation marks a fresh era, both in image and sound, as they continue to evolve artistically.
