The trailer highlights Lucius' encounter with Washington’s Macrinus, a figure who seeks to exploit Lucius’ skills as a gladiator to consolidate his own influence in ancient Rome. The story unfolds as Macrinus sets out to overthrow the ruthless emperors, played by Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger. Pedro Pascal also stars as a Roman general, against whom Lucius harbours a deep desire for vengeance.
According to the official synopsis, the film takes place years after Lucius witnessed the death of the legendary Maximus at the hands of his uncle. Now, with his homeland under the rule of tyrannical emperors, Lucius is thrust into the Colosseum. Fueled by rage and a sense of duty, he must find the strength and honor to restore Rome’s former glory.
Director Ridley Scott, now 86, has shared plans for a third ‘Gladiator’ film, with a storyline inspired by ‘The Godfather Part II’. This sequel comes 24 years after the release of the original ‘Gladiator’, which earned five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and received 12 nominations overall. Connie Nielsen reprises her role as Lucius' mother, Lucilla, in this action-packed epic set to hit theatres on 22nd November.
