Hailee Steinfeld Reveals Why She Made the Difficult Decision to Take a Break from Music

Hailee Steinfeld is gradually returning to music and sharing the reasons for her initial hiatus. The 28-year-old singer and actress is appearing in the action-thriller ‘Sinners’, and she also contributed a song called ‘Dangerous’ to the soundtrack. She is ecstatic about the song, which is her first release since 2023.
She clarified that while deciding to take a hiatus from music wasn’t simple, she did so in order to concentrate more on her acting profession, a move she was eventually happy with. She has always loved music, though, and it continues to be a deep-seated interest and significant aspect of her life.
Now, it seems like the perfect time to return to music with a movie that is largely inspired by it. Given how much music is woven into the plot of ‘Sinners’, which is set in the 1930s, Steinfeld expressed her enthusiasm about working on the film. Michael B. Jordan, who plays identical siblings in the movie, called the experience of playing a part in a project where music is so important a dream come true. She claimed she hadn’t realised how much she had missed music until it offered her the opportunity to reopen it in a meaningful way.

In the same interview, Steinfeld discussed how music influenced her portrayal of Mary, Jordan’s character, Stack’s audacious and nuanced love interest. Mary finds comfort in the blues and utilises music as a coping mechanism for the loss of her mother. For Mary, music serves as more than simply a background element; it is a solace, a connection to her history, and a haven from sorrow.
According to Steinfeld, music is not only a passion but also a lifeline for Mary, serving as a symbol of safety and home.

After her final single, ‘SunKissing’, was released, Steinfeld gave a glimpse of her future while reflecting on her upbringing in the entertainment business. She stated her desire to take on more behind-the-scenes work in the future, citing her experience on ‘Dickinson’ on Apple TV+ and the unadulterated inventiveness of poet Emily Dickinson as inspiration. She wants to continue doing a lot of acting, but she also wants to produce and eventually direct.
Even if it may have been neglected for a spell, Steinfeld’s passion for music was always evident.
