‘Hamilton’ Sets Some Banging New Records

Not to be dramatic, but it appears that history is repeating itself. The Broadway musical, ‘Hamilton’ is once again making waves across the globe, notching new wins on the charts and prompting a flood of new covers

For starters, ‘Hamilton’ has reached a new peak on the Billboard 200 albums chart, in light of the show’s Disney+ premiere on July 3. The album earned 102,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending July 9. Further, the musical soared to No. 2 on the Billboard charts, surpassing its previous high of No. 3. This makes ‘Hamilton’ the highest charting cast album since the original cast recording of ‘Hair’ which spent 13 weeks at No. 1 in 1969.

Now, if you thought that was an impressive feat, get a load of this: ‘Hamilton’ is also celebrating its 250th week on the Billboard 200 chart. Yup, we’ll give you a minute to let that sink in. The original London cast recording of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, is the only other piece of work to climb unimaginable heights: logging a whopping 331 weeks on the charts between 1990 and 1996.

Also, since Nielsen Music/MRC Data began electronically tracking sales in 1991, only five traditional musical cast recordings have ever sold at least 32,000 copies in a single week. ‘Hamilton’ falls under this list, of course.

And that’s a rundown of all their impressive wins! The cast recently reunited for a rendition of , ‘Helpless‘ during the ‘Global Goal: Unite for Our Future’ concert and since then, the musical has once again succeeded in becoming the brightest act in the room.
