‘House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock To Be ‘Supergirl’: James Gunn Teases in Photo

Comic book fans have seen Milly Alcock on the set of ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ for the first time thanks to James Gunn.

The co-CEO and director of DC Studios posted a picture of Alcock clutching a Supergirl comic book on Instagram. The picture gives fans a sneak peek at Alcock as she plays Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El, even if it doesn't seem to be a straight scene from the upcoming movie.  Gunn said he was thrilled to see how the character has been portrayed over the years and was looking forward to seeing Alcock's portrayal when the movie comes out in June 2026.

Alcock initially became well-known for her performance in ‘House of the Dragon’ on HBO.  Her casting as Supergirl in the new DC Universe was revealed by DC Studios in January 2024. She is expected to appear briefly in Superman before starring in her own movie.  Alcock thanked Gunn for giving her the part and expressed her joy on social media at the time.

In ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham play Supergirl's parents, Eve Ridley plays Ruthye Marye Knoll, and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills.  Krypto, the superpowered dog, will also be introduced in the movie.  Former ‘Aquaman’ actor Jason Momoa makes a comeback to the DC Universe as Lobo, the anti-hero.

In a post on X, Gunn initially announced that filming had started and commended director Craig Gillespie for giving the story a distinctive vision.  Additionally, he said that Alcock was the ideal representation of the ‘Supergirl’ persona as envisioned by comic book authors Ana Nogueira, Bilquis Evely, and Tom King.

‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’, starring Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and David Corenswet as Superman, will be released on 11th July, 2025.

‘Supergirl’ was first depicted on television by Helen Slater in 1984 and Sasha Calle in 2023's ‘The Flash’. She was first established in DC Comics in 1959 by Otto Binder and Al Plastino.

On 26th June, 2026, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ will make its theatrical debut.
