The Coachella music festival, known more for its energetic atmosphere than heartwarming moments, showcased a pop equivalent to the adorable interaction between two baby pandas. In the midst of the vibrant pink arena lights and the enthusiastic cheers of countless teenagers capturing their excitement, Billie Eilish experienced her first encounter with her idol, Justin Bieber.

The scene, poignant in its essence, prompted contemplation of its broader cultural significance. Two pop prodigies, aged 17 and 25, stood at distinct junctures in their career trajectories. Eilish's childhood bedroom walls were once adorned with Bieber's images.

“This whole time I’ve been getting this one sentence,” Eilish says, “like, I’m a rule-breaker. Or I’m anti-pop, or whatever. I’m flattered that people think that, but it’s like, where, though? What rule did I break? The rule about making classic pop music and dressing like a girly girl? I never said I’m not going to do that. I just didn’t do it.”

However, she recently stumbled upon a collection of songs she penned at the age of 11, and among them was one titled ‘Why Not’. The melody was crafted using the only five chords she knew. The song's lyrics conveyed a straightforward yet morbid premise. If she took her own life, everything would remain unchanged, the stars would still shine, the sun would continue to rise, and the seasons would persist in changing. Surprisingly, her friends admired it. Reflecting on it now, she can scarcely believe that this was the song she created at the tender age of 11, yet she recalls being entirely content at the time.
