Hozier, the acclaimed Irish musician, recently shared an amusing and memorable story behind his song ‘Too Sweet’ during his Unreal Unearth tour. In a TikTok post from a performance at Minnesota’s Xcel Energy Center, Hozier recounted a chaotic night that inspired part of the song. He revealed that after a heavy night of drinking with an old friend, he found himself struggling to get ready for an important early flight. Groggy and disoriented, he joked about his height, saying if he fell, he’d be “halfway home.”
Despite the humorous mishaps, including crashing into a window and colliding with a wall, Hozier managed to pack his bags and catch his flight. The story, blending chaos with humour, offered fans an entertaining glimpse into his personal experiences and added a unique backstory to his music.

The flight took an unexpected turn when Hozier found himself seated next to Irish actor Cillian Murphy. Feeling “rattled” and akin to a severe hangover, Hozier was further disoriented by the surprise encounter with the actor he admired.
During the flight, he noticed he was bleeding slightly, and was startled when Murphy casually asked, “How’s it going?” This surreal experience, combined with his earlier chaos, influenced the lyrics of ‘Too Sweet’, particularly the line “I aim low, I aim true, and the ground’s where I go.”
Hozier recalled this incident with a smile during an interview, expressing his gratitude for the connection he shares with his audience. He finds it remarkable and humbling that people choose to attend his concerts, and this appreciation for his fans remains central to his performance experience.
In discussing his views on fame, Hozier cautioned against pursuing recognition merely for its own sake. He believes that seeking fame for its own sake can have negative consequences, and instead emphasises the importance of focusing on the joy and impact of one’s work.
