Hugh Grant’s Dark Social Experiment Unveiled in Gripping ‘Heretic’ Trailer

If you thought Hugh Grant excelled at playing villains before, ‘Heretic’ will take that to a new level. A24’s latest horror film has already garnered rave reviews ahead of its release, and a new trailer showcases just why. Like the first teaser, the latest footage keeps the plot shrouded in mystery, but makes it clear that ‘Heretic’ is a must-see on the big screen.

In the trailer, we see Grant’s character, Mr. Reed, preparing for something sinister. His home has been transformed into a house of horrors, which will soon be discovered by two missionaries, Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East). As suggested by the film’s title, themes of religion and faith play a central role, and Barnes and Paxton’s beliefs will be severely tested by the terrifying games Mr. Reed has in store for them.

The official synopsis of ‘Heretic’ reads:

“Two young missionaries are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by the diabolical Mr. Reed, becoming trapped in his deadly cat-and-mouse game.”

‘Heretic’ is continuing the remarkable trend of positive critical reception for horror in 2024. This year has been fantastic for the genre, particularly for films like ‘Heretic’, which have kept their marketing mysterious and ambiguous. Earlier in the year, ‘Longlegs’ became a viral sensation for its cryptic trailers and strong reviews.

Other horror hits in 2024 include the found footage film ‘Late Night with the Devil’, the psychological thriller ‘Speak No Evil’, and ‘Alien: Romulus’, a sci-fi horror entry. Upcoming releases like ‘Terrifier 3’ and ‘Nosferatu’ are also highly anticipated. ‘Heretic’ debuts in theaters on 8th November, 2024.
