‘Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ – Director Francis Lawrence Shares Exciting New Update

With ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’, a much-awaited prequel based on Suzanne Collins’ next novel, the ‘Hunger Games’ narrative is growing once more. The past of Haymitch Abernathy, the adored winner-turned-mentor from the first series, will be examined in this new episode. Francis Lawrence, the filmmaker, is already far into pre-production, even though fans are eagerly awaiting the book’s March release date.

Lawrence promoted Constantine’s 4K UHD release and provided updates on the film’s development in an exclusive chat with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt. He provided the project’s timeframe and affirmed that production will start this year. The team is presently conducting research, looking for potential locations, and getting ready for production, which is set to begin in April, as the book’s release draws near.

Lawrence, who has helmed multiple ‘Hunger Games’ movies, including ‘Catching Fire’, ‘Mockingjay’ Parts 1 and 2, and the most recent ‘Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’, is excited to return to the land of Panem. He praised the series’ intriguing themes and world-building and said he was excited to work with veteran franchise producers Nina Jacobson and author Suzanne Collins once more.

The casting of young Haymitch in ‘Sunrise on Reaping’ is one of the film’s greatest mysteries. Fans are excited to see who will play the part as Woody Harrelson is unable to return in a de-aged capacity. However, Lawrence acknowledged that because the book has not yet been published, the casting process is still in its early phases. The team is carefully researching and awaiting more information before making conclusions because the entire story hasn’t been revealed yet.

On 20th November 2026, ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ will be released in theatres. Keep checking back for additional information from Lawrence regarding this fascinating prequel, his work on the ‘Bioshock’ adaptation, and the eagerly anticipated ‘Constantine’ sequel.
