‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Director Hints at Brandy’s Possible Return to the Franchise

As the eagerly awaited ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ sequel gets ready for its July release, Brandy might have some secret summer plans.  Alongside a new ensemble of characters played by Madelyn Cline, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, and Chase Sui Wonders, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt will return to their roles as Julie and Ray.

In ‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer’, Brandy played Julie’s college friend Karla Wilson. She lived through the events of the 1998 follow-up and had previously indicated that she would like to play the same character again.  When asked if she would appear in the new film, director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson remained mute and encouraged audiences to watch it for themselves.

As ardent fans, Robinson, who co-wrote the script with Leah McKendrick and Sam Lansky, noted that they made sure the movie will live up to the expectations of the fanbase.  She hinted that the sequel has every important component that fans would desire, including a noteworthy allusion to ‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer’.

In the 1998 follow-up, the infamous fisherman killer pursued Julie and her friends while they were on vacation at a remote island resort.  The events of that movie are acknowledged in the current film, and Robinson and her co-writers argue over how much of an influence it should have on Julie’s story.  They want to appreciate the film’s extravagant features while providing more intense scares, all the while preserving its lighthearted horror tone.

With the murders being more deliberate and the violence far more intense than in the first film, this second installment ups the ante on the terror.  Despite being full of nostalgia for the 1990s, the movie is made to be watchable by new audiences as well.  Robinson clarified that the intention was to make a film that would appeal to devoted viewers and be a stand-alone release for new viewers.

On 18th July, ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ will be released in theaters.
