In North Carolina, the notorious fisherman is returning. A first-look photo from the set of Sony Pictures' 1997 slasher revival of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ was made public on 4th December. Fans of the original series, which starred Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, would recognize the classic fisherman's hook as a terrifying weapon. The image, which was posted on Instagram, announced the start of filming and hinted at the villain's return.
Two sequels to the original ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ were released in 1998 and 2006, however, the original cast was absent from the third film.
In the first film, Prinze Jr., Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe, and Sarah Michelle Gellar played a group of teens traumatized by the aftermath of a car accident, while the man they believed they killed (Ben Willis, played by Muse Watson) pursues revenge.

The revival, which was directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson of ‘Do Revenge’ and whose script was written by Leah McKendrick, was announced in February 2023. The actor who played Ray Bronson in the original movies, Prinze Jr., acknowledged in July that he is negotiating a comeback. However, because Helen Shivers died in the original film, Gellar will not be reprising her role. However, being a close friend of Robinson's, she continues to be involved behind the scenes, contributing innovative ideas.
On Instagram, Gellar made a lighthearted suggestion that she and Prinze Jr. might ultimately work together on a third ‘Scooby-Doo’ film if they decided to revive the ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ franchise.

Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Haur-King, Sarah Pidgeon, Austin Nichols, Madelyn Cline, Lola Tung, Tyriq Withers, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Gabbriette are among the new cast members in the revival. Hewitt and Prinze Jr. will return, bringing a blend of new and classic characters. 18th July 2025, is the scheduled release date for the movie.
