In London, Jimi Hendrix Will Be Honoured With a New Blue Plaque
Jimi Hendrix will be honoured with a new Blue Plaque in the City of London. The plaque will be revealed on 10th June at the Hard Rock Hotel in Marble Arch, in conjunction with the ‘Experience Hendrix L.L.C’ event.
Hendrix’s final London apartment, known as the Cumberland Hotel at the time, is located here. On the hotel’s stationary, Hendrix scribbled the lyrics to ‘Look Over Yonder’ and ‘Suddenly November Morning.’
A screening of the Grammy-nominated documentary Music, Money, Madness… will be held as part of the festivities. Jimi’s sister Janie Hendrix, his producer and engineer Eddie Kramer, and the film’s director John McDermott, participated in a question-and-answer session.
Jimi’s first Blue Plaque was unveiled in 1997 at his Mayfair home from 1968 to 1969. In other Jimi Hendrix news, Joni Mitchell stated last year that she would be releasing Jimi Hendrix’s recordings of two gigs performed at a Canadian coffee shop.
Hendrix taped Mitchell’s performances at Ottawa’s Le Hibou Coffee House during a two-week residency in March 1968, just before the release of her debut album, ‘Song To A Seagull.’
Mitchell’s compilation ‘Joni Mitchell Archives Vol. 2: The Reprise Years (1968-1971)’ was released late last year and includes the recording.
A signed Jimi Hendrix lyric sheet that was ripped in half and given to two fans at a concert 55 years ago was recently reassembled.
