Interpol Excited to Be Creating a New Rock Album
Interpol’s Paul Banks has expressed that he’s “pumped” about the new material the band is creating. Last month, it was reported that Interpol had returned to the studio, with drummer Sam Fogarino back at it after recovering from spinal surgery. The band’s last album, The Other Side of Make Believe, was released in 2022, and Banks described it as “really intimate.” He noted that the album explores various dimensions and brings in new energies, thanks in part to their collaboration with the talented producer Flood, who he regards as a genius in the studio.
“It sounding weird is probably one of the benefits of writing it more remotely. Having written in the lockdown, and then rehearsing a bit allowed for a certain characteristic,” he said.
“With this [next] record, we’re getting back to writing together in a room and my favourite tracks so far are quite high energy.”

Banks also mentioned that the new sonic direction was partly influenced by the band’s recent tour with the Smashing Pumpkins, noting that he felt inspired by their songwriting across the board. It was a great eye-opener for him.
He added that it’s possible the album could be released next year, but due to touring commitments, they might want to take some time to regroup and simply enjoy life.
Interpol is currently on their ‘Antics’ 20th-anniversary tour, performing their iconic 2004 album in its entirety. They will continue touring across Europe before heading to the UK next month. After that, the band will embark on a series of headline shows in the US.
To mark 20 years since the album’s release, the band has released a newly expanded reissue available on digital platforms, which includes the digital-exclusive B-side ‘Direction’. Today, they will also stream their legendary, previously unseen performance from 2005 at Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes.
A custom-made triple LP vinyl box set featuring the album, a 30-page booklet, and the complete concert from Palacio de los Deportes is set to be released in early 2025. Additionally, a limited-edition single LP red vinyl reissue will be available at record stores worldwide, with release dates of October 18 for the rest of the world and October 25 for the US and Canada. An exclusive limited tricolor LP in red, white, and green will also be available in Mexico, sold at a Matador Records pop-up at Vavava CDMX in Mexico City from November 9-14.
