Introducing Barlow & Bear: Grammy-Winning Duo Behind The ‘Moana 2’ Soundtrack

Barlow & Bear, the Grammy-winning duo comprising Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, have rapidly made a name for themselves in the music industry. Meeting by chance five years ago, their serendipitous encounter has blossomed into a formidable partnership, leading them to take on one of their most significant projects to date. Over the last two years, they have composed the soundtrack for the highly anticipated sequel to ‘Moana’, set to be released soon.

Reflecting on their journey, Bear states, “It’s one of those little life decisions that end up changing everything.” Barlow echoes this sentiment, recalling their initial songwriting session: “We had a songwriting session together and immediately clicked. It all just fell into place.” This creative synergy has not only forged a close friendship but also paved the way for their groundbreaking achievements in the music realm.

With their work on ‘Moana 2’, Barlow & Bear have made history as the youngest composers ever to write all the songs for an animated Disney film. Additionally, they are the first female songwriting team to reach this milestone, a testament to their talent and dedication.

They resonate with the character of Moana, stating, “We think she’s such a badass,” highlighting their connection to the film’s themes of empowerment and courage.

Before their partnership, both Barlow and Bear were carving their own paths in music. Barlow focused on pop songwriting and building her social media presence, while Bear, a child prodigy, gained recognition after being mentored by the legendary Quincy Jones. Bear also showcased her talent as the pianist on Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour, an experience that further enriched her musical journey.

Their unique backgrounds contribute to their innovative sound, with Bear noting, “We have such different musical backgrounds and view music in completely different ways, which is why it works.” She adds, “Because why would you want to collaborate with someone who thinks the same as you?” This diversity in perspective fuels their creativity, making Barlow & Bear a dynamic force in the industry as they continue to push boundaries and inspire audiences.
