Ironman Lands on the Shores of Goa

Ironman, one of the toughest endurance races finally came down to India! The Ironman triathlon, which started with a single event in 1978, has grown to become a global sensation with more than 230 events across 53 countries.

The triathlon, which involves swimming, cycling and running all happened on the shores of Goa’s Miramar beach! As their radio partners, we had a brilliant opportunity to witness around a thousand participants put all their strength into 1.9km of swimming, 90km of cycling and 21.1km of running!

The first person to finish the race, with a time of 04:42:44, was Bishworjit Saikhom, a 27-year-old athlete from Manipur who has been competing in triathlons for the past nine years. It was quite a spectacle to watch as he neared the finish line, all of us on the edge of our seats.

Leading up to the event, we also had a wonderful conversation with one of the front runners among the Indian athletes at Ironman races, Deepak Raj. From discussing his transition from participant to coach, to patiently explaining details about safety gear and all the routes – it was an unforgettable interview!
Apart from all the competitors, we also got the chance to catch up with the chief minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant!

Suffice it to say, that this was simply a mind-blowing experience. Watching all the participants tirelessly conquer all obstacles, truly showcased the triumph of the human spirit! Tune in to Indigo 91.9 to be a part of these amazing events and to win exclusive experiences on-air!
