In recent events, Taylor Swift has revealed that Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta have denied her the right to perform any songs prior to the release of her latest album ‘Lover’. Swift took to Twitter on 15th November to convey her distress over the situation, telling the world that the American Music Awards would be honouring her with Artist of the Decade Award, and in the spirit of the event, she would have liked to perform a medley of all her hits from the decade, but later learnt that Braun and Borchetta have stripped her of her right to perform her earlier songs.

This accusation has been completely denied by both Braun and Borchetta. Swift dove deeper into teh situation explaining that the two men “claim that [performing the songs] would be re-recording my music before I’m allowed to next year”. She also went on to say that Netflix had slated a documentary about her life for the past few years and Scott and Braun have declined the use of her older music and even performance footage of the songs in question “even though there is no mention of either of them or Big Machine Records anywhere in the film”.

Swift hoped that by sharing this story she could shine a light on the situation and prevent any other artist from meeting the same fate. Swift continues to maintain that neither of these men were a part of the songs that she had written and that it is wrong to prevent a musician from wanting to perform and re-record their own songs, something she is legally entitled to do. She wants to be able to perform her own music but as of now, venues that are to be played until November 2020 are a question mark.

Angered, heartbroken and upset by the way things have taken shape, celebrities from the industry have voiced their opinions in support of Taylor, with the hashtags #ISTANDWITHTAYLOR and #FREETAYLOR trending worldwide. Artists like Selena Gomez, Halsey, Ruby Rose, Tinashe, Camilla Cabello and Gigi Hadid amongst many more are pushing forward, ensuring that Swift does not have to fight this battle alone.

On the other hand, Sia has hopped on the other side of the fence and vouched for Scott Borchetta, saying that he is a good man and hopes that the situation will pass soon. The world is waiting to see how the entire debacle unfolds and what the final verdict will be.
