J Cole has surprised us once again and this time the rap star dropped a new track “Heaven’s EP,” built on top of the beat from Drake’s Certified Lover Boy tune “Pipe Down.” The artist dropped the new video on 21st September.

“Some people say that I’m running third, they threw the bronze at me/Behind Drake and Dot, yeah them n**gas is superstars to me/Maybe deep down I’m afraid of my luminosity/So when you see me on red carpets, I’m movin’ awkwardly,” Cole raps on the track.

Recently, the legendary Big Daddy Kane linked up with Cole and called him his favorite rapper that’s out right now.

“I want this brother right here to know that he is my favorite MC out here right now,” Kane said in a clip he posted to social media of the two meeting. “This is the brother right here that makes me feel like hip-hop is still alive and it’s here to stay when I listen to this here brother spit and listen to his music. Love you, fam.”

J Cole’s latest album The Off-Season blasted to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in May. In the same month, he made his professional debut with the Basketball Africa League, netting three points, three rebounds and two assists in his first game for the Rwandan Patriots.

The 36 year old rapper was a star player at Sanford High School in North Carolina and was a walk-on for the St. John’s college basketball team, but he ended up bailing on college basketball to pursue music.

Cole brought to light his basketball dreams in his new song, with the rap: “Like the second time I got cut from the junior varsity/ Fightin’ back tears, I promised to switch gears/ And said to myself “whatever you do, you won’t do it partially.”

“Heaven’s EP” is accompanied with a Simon Chasalow-directed music video, which follows Cole on a trip to Las Vegas.
