Jack Antonoff Responds to Backlash Over Wearing Earplugs During Katy Perry's VMAs Performance

Jack Antonoff has addressed the recent buzz surrounding his use of earplugs during Katy Perry's performance at the Video Music Awards. The music producer took to social media to clarify the situation, asserting that he did not consider it a significant issue, but felt it necessary to address it openly.

On X, Antonoff admitted, “I would like to tell you directly from me that I did in fact use earplugs the other night. They were a blue ‘Hearos’ brand and I’m mortified to admit that I’ve been using them for a long time as well as buying them in bulk.” He expressed his discomfort with the revelation but remained committed to transparency.

Antonoff humorously noted that he uses earplugs not only at loud events but also during flights and while sleeping. He joked about the embarrassment of the situation and the necessity of apologising, despite his belief that it was a “pressing issue that needed to be exposed.”

In a tongue-in-cheek manner, he apologised to those he may have disappointed and quipped about 

how his use of earplugs might have impacted his work and fans. Antonoff concluded with a light-hearted remark that his band would keep all scheduled dates as planned.

Artists such as Tyla and Chapelle Roan received awards, and Taylor Swift captured headlines with her seven trophies and speculated hints about a re-release of her album ‘Reputation’.
