Jack Black Gave Kate Winslet a Hilarious Nickname on ‘The Holiday’ Set

Kate Winslet still holds onto a lasting gift from Jack Black!

During an advanced screening of her new film ‘Lee’ in New York City on 23rd September, the 48-year-old actress was surprised with a video message from her ‘The Holiday’ costar, Jack Black. In the clip, Black humorously asks Winslet, “When’s ‘Holiday 2’ happening?” and adds, “You’re the best. How are you doing? Anyway, I miss you. Love you.”

Winslet, laughing, explained during the Q&A with ‘Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz that Black gave her a nickname that stuck: “He started my nickname on set,” she shared. “So now, my nickname is K Dub, thanks to Jack. On most sets, people call me K Dub. Even on *Lee*, they’d ask for ‘Kate,’ and I’d have to clarify because there were two of us.”

In ‘The Holiday’, Winslet plays Iris, a heartbroken columnist who swaps homes with Amanda (Cameron Diaz) for the holidays. While Amanda falls for Iris’ brother Graham (Jude Law), Iris forms a connection with Miles (Black), a film composer and friend of Amanda’s ex.

Winslet also shared in a February appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ that more people recognize her for ‘The Holiday’ than ‘Titanic’—especially during the Christmas season. She recounted how mothers and daughters often tell her how the film has become a cherished holiday tradition for them, which she finds “so lovely.”

Despite persistent rumours of a sequel, director Nancy Meyers denied any plans for ‘The Holiday 2’ in December 2022. Winslet also addressed the speculation, telling PEOPLE that she had never been approached about a follow-up. However, Jude Law told E! News in June that he loves the idea of a sequel and joked that his character, Graham, would likely still be wearing cardigans and worrying about his daughters, who would now be in their late 20s.
