Jackie Chan is Making A Return to The ‘Karate Kid’ Series

Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, the dynamic duo from two different eras of ‘Karate Kid’ films, are teaming up for a fresh martial arts extravaganza set to hit theatres on 13th December 2024. Sony Pictures, with director Jonathan Entwistle and writer Rob Lieber at the helm, is cooking up the magic, and Karen Rosenfelt is the mastermind behind the production.

The plot is shrouded in mystery, like a ninja in the shadows. However, what we do know is that Macchio is dusting off his karate skills to reprise his role as Daniel LaRusso, a character he first brought to life in the original ‘Karate Kid’ trilogy back in 1984. He then revived the character in Netflix’s ‘Cobra Kai’ series, making it clear that Daniel’s martial arts journey is far from over. On the other side of the dojo, Chan is slipping back into the role of Mr. Han, the kung fu master with shades of Mr. Miyagi, who previously coached Jaden Smith’s Dre Parker in the 2010 remake.

Since 1984, the ‘Karate Kid’ franchise has become a heavyweight in Hollywood’s sports sagas, racking up over $430 million at the global box office and earning an Emmy nod for the spinoff series, ‘Cobra Kai’. Macchio and Chan are reprising their roles with a seasoned team backing them up, promising a blockbuster that will kick its way into the hearts of fans old and new.

The 2010 remake, featuring Chan alongside Jaden Smith, was a global hit, grossing a hefty $359 million. Now, with Entwistle at the directorial helm, known for his work on ‘I’m Not Okay with This’ and ‘The End of the F***ing World,’ the stage is set for the sixth installment of this beloved franchise.
