Jackson Wang Quit The London Olympics to Explore a Career in K-Pop

Jackson Wang has disclosed that he passed up the opportunity to compete in the 2012 London Olympics in order to pursue a career in K-pop.

The singer, who is also a part of the K-pop boyband GOT7, appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show recently to discuss his forthcoming album ‘Magic Man.’ During his conversation with Kelly Clarkson, he discussed his experience as a fencer for the Hong Kong Team before moving to Korea, as well as what he sacrificed for music.

Jackson’s shift to a music career didn’t go well with his parents. It took him 7 months to persuade them.

Jackson had represented Hong Kong as a sabre fencer at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore and finished first in the 2011 Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships before signing with JYP Entertainment and moving to South Korea to start his training as a K-pop idol.

Wang released a new English-language single called ‘Blow’ last month. That song was released shortly after Wang released the mixtape ‘LOST & FOUND,’ which featured eight previously recorded but unreleased songs.

‘Blow,’ according to a press release, is the first glimpse of Wang’s “Magic Man” persona, which was indicated towards the end of the music video. The persona will serve as the driving force behind the production and direction of his upcoming album with the same title.

Meanwhile, GOT7 is expected to release new music this month. The seven-piece is currently in the “final stages of preparation” for a “new album,” according to reports. Despite a few members’ hints about a comeback, the band has yet to officially confirm the news.
