James Gunn Hints at Next DC Movie After ‘Superman’

Fans are eager to see what James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios and the man behind ‘The Suicide Squad’ and P’eacemaker’, will do next in the developing DC Universe. Gunn’s lofty plans for a reinvigorated DCU are beginning to take shape as the release of ‘Superman’ approaches. Along with ‘Creature Commandos’ showrunner Dean Lorey, Gunn recently spoke with Collider about his schedule and disclosed that he hasn’t yet chosen his next directing project.

Gunn stated that he is now considering four different alternatives and is investigating each to see which best fits his vision for the DCU. He stressed his dedication to compelling storytelling and developing interconnected yet creatively flexible projects that significantly impact the universe, but he would not elaborate on specifics.

Gunn reaffirmed that no DC project will proceed without a completed screenplay that satisfies his requirements. His commitment to putting quality over quantity is demonstrated by this plan, which aims to win back the faith of fans who were let down by earlier attempts to create the DC Extended Universe.

Apart from ‘Superman’ and ‘Creature Commandos’, Gunn is also in charge of a number of well-known projects, such as Milly Alcock’s ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ and the HBO series ‘Lanterns’, which stars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, and Kelly Macdonald. Both scripts were hailed by him as outstanding examples of the storytelling that will characterize the rebuilt DCU.

While ‘Creature Commandos’ will premiere on Max on 5th December 2024, with episodes showing weekly until the season finale in January 2025, ‘Superman’ is scheduled for release in July 2025. As Gunn meticulously crafts the upcoming chapter of DC’s cinematic world, fans should anticipate more information.
