The iconic star wants to give fans a glimpse into her life via this four-hour documentary that features cameos by high-profile artists from her close-knit circle, reminiscing on Jackson’s great impact as an artist and one of the most influential women in music history.

The clip starts with Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey and Paula Abdul praising Janet’s distinguished career.

“This is what a superstar looks like,” Elliott says.

“She is an empowered woman,” Carey adds, before Abdul calls Janet a “force to be reckoned with.”

“She comes from a whole family of legends,” professional dancer Whyley Yoshimura notes.

Despite her celebrity status, to big brother Tito Jackson, “she will always be my baby sister,” he says with a smile as fans can be heard chanting “Janet! Janet!” off camera.

“This is my story, told by me. Not through someone else’s eyes,” Jackson says in the snippet, which is sound tracked by her 1986 song ‘Control’. “This is the truth. Take it or leave it. Love it or hate it. This is me.” The 55 year old singer says this over powerfully evocative old clips of her performing throughout the ’80s and ’90s, as well as growing up with her famous brothers as part of the Jackson 5. Included in the trailer is archival footage of Janet’s brother Michael Jackson, who died in 2009, and her Poetic Justice co-star Tupac Shakur, who was killed in 1996.

The documentary has been in the works for over 5 years and was directed by Ben Hirsch, with Janet Jackson and Randy Jackson serving as executive producers. It was filmed around the time of her father, Joseph Jackson’s death in 2018 and includes exclusive archival footage, home videos and celebrity interviews. The features will reportedly also cover her return to the stage following her music hiatus, her 2004 Super Bowl halftime performance with Justin Timberlake which sparked controversy that has followed her into the present day and becoming a mom later in life.
