Japan’s Aimer to Sing Theme Songs for Demon Slayer Anime Series
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba announced a much awaited new season of the mega hit anime series. The announcement came along with the performer of the opening and ending themes of the story arc depicting Tanjiro’s mission to destroy the Upper-Rank demons preying on an entertainment district.
The J-pop singer Aimer is all set to sing both the themes. The opener is a fast-paced number entitled “Zankyosanka,” and the ending theme is a song written and produced by the prolific songwriter Yuki Kajiura called “Asa ga kuru.”
The popular anime has launched a number of recent long-running J-pop hits, including LiSA’s “Homura” (co-written by Kajiura and LiSA) and “Gurenge,” and Aimer’s new numbers are expected to follow suit.
According to reports from Billboard, Aimer commented that she’s “really happy and honored” to sing both tracks, and that she’s looking forward to “adding a bit of flair to their story every week, as the excitement builds against the backdrop of the nightlife in the entertainment district.”
The highly anticipated anime adaptation of the Entertainment District Arc will debut on Dec. 5, following the broadcast of the Mugen Train Arc, which begins on Oct. 10 and features a re-edited version of the events seen in the 2020 Mugen Train movie, which is the highest grossing anime movie of all time. The new TV version of the story will feature an all-new first episode that will detail how the Flame Hashira Rengoku made his way to the titular Mugen Train. LiSA, the musician who performed the anime’s original theme, will provide new music for the Mugen Train Arc. The show’s original theme song, “Gurenge,” was so successful that it made its composer into millionaire.
Demon Slayer was first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016 and has since become one of the biggest entertainment franchises to emerge out of Japan in recent years. The series focuses on Tanjiro Kamado, who comes home one day to discover that most of his family has been massacred by a demon, and his sole surviving sibling, his little sister Nezuko, has been cursed to transform into a demon herself. Despite his kind nature, Tanjiro decides to learn how to fight so that he can become a demon slayer and protect others from suffering the same fate.
“Zankyosanka” and “Asa ga kuru” will be released on Jan. 12, 2022.
