Jason Isaacs Says Filming ‘Harry Potter’ Movies “Wasn’t That Much Fun”

In an interview with ‘The One Show’, Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy in the ‘Harry Potter’ films, said that he wasn’t particularly excited about making the popular films. He acknowledged that filming large-scale special effects projects could be tedious at times, but he stressed that the real joy has come in the years since.
He said that although the production process felt monotonous at times, he has since come to appreciate the profound impact the films have had on audiences and that it has been extremely meaningful to him to meet fans who believe the series changed or even saved their lives.
Isaacs acknowledged that even though he starred in six of the eight ‘Harry Potter’ movies, ranging from ‘Chamber of Secrets’ (2002) to ‘Deathly Hallows – Part 2’ (2011), he still gets upset when he watches them. He recounted times when he took family members to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour, stating that the story’s charm frequently brought him to tears as soon as he entered the Great Hall.

Regarding Harry Potter’s lasting legacy, Isaacs—who subsequently starred in ‘The Death of Stalin’ and ‘The White Lotus’—said that there is something really unique about the series that appeals to people of all ages.
HBO is now working on a new ‘Harry Potter’ TV series that will debut in 2027 and be produced in the same studios as the original films. Cillian Murphy has been proposed as a possible new Voldemort, and John Lithgow is reportedly in negotiations to play Dumbledore in the ten-year-long series.
