Jason Momoa Cast as Lobo in James Gunn’s DC Universe

Jason Momoa played ‘Aquaman’ in two stand-alone films and made brief appearances in other DC productions during his tenure in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, which ran from 2016 to 2023. Momoa has now officially announced his return to the DC Universe, this time as the evil Lobo, under James Gunn’s direction. On social media, he shared a tape from an interview in which he declared his love for the character and said Lobo was always his favourite and the ideal job for him. He went on to say that he would give a hearty “f**k yeah” if they ever asked him to play Lobo.

“They called,” Momoa captioned the picture, and James Gunn added, “Welcome, my friend.” Using the hashtag #Supergirl, Gunn also posted the picture to his Instagram Stories. Momoa will play Lobo for the first time in ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’, starring Milly Alcock as the title character, according to Deadline.

‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ is anticipated to be released in 2026, however the exact date has not yet been determined. Production is planned to begin in early January. The plot of the movie is yet anonymous. Next year, on 11th July 2025, David Corenswet’s ‘Superman’ will be released, marking the beginning of Gunn’s new DC Universe.

To bring the continuity of live-action movies, TV series, animation, and video games together, this movie will be the first in a soft reboot of the DC Extended Universe. Adaptations that deviate from this continuity will fall under the DC Elseworlds umbrella.

With Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Corenswet will play the legendary superhero in ‘Superman’. Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, and Anthony Carrigan are among the other cast members.
