Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Finalize Divorce Just 20 Weeks After Filing

According to court paperwork that PEOPLE obtained, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have formally finalised their divorce. The judgment was rendered about 20 weeks after Lopez filed for marital dissolution in August.

After reigniting their romance in 2021, the pair married in a low-key ceremony in July 2022 in Las Vegas. In August 2022, a month later, they threw a bigger party in Georgia with loved ones present. However, Lopez filed for divorce precisely two years after their Georgia wedding, claiming that their separation was due to irreconcilable differences. Their breakup date was reported as 26th April by her.

Without an attorney, Lopez filed her case at the Los Angeles County Superior Court. She asked for a division of legal bills, no spousal support for either party and a statement that the details of their separate and combined assets were still pending. Additionally, she requested that her name be legally changed back to Jennifer Lynn Lopez.

Although it was not a decision she wanted to make, Lopez reportedly seemed “relieved” after filing for divorce, according to people close to her. According to the insider, Lopez had believed that things would be resolved because they were still in love. She doesn’t give up easily, though. According to a person close to Affleck, he was doing well at the time, maintaining his concentration on his business, and spending time with his kids, all of which appeared to make him happy.

After the pair were not spotted together for weeks in May, there were rumours that their marriage was having problems. The two eventually got back together in Los Angeles and were seen together at Affleck’s daughter Violet’s graduation, while Lopez was busy promoting her movie Atlas and going to the Met Gala by herself.

The ex-couple lived their lives apart during the summer. Without Affleck, Lopez celebrated personal anniversaries like her birthday and the Fourth of July while touring Europe and the Hamptons during the summer. Affleck, meanwhile, continued to film ‘The Accountant 2’ in Los Angeles.

Lopez recently attended the Toronto International Film Festival in September for the debut of ‘Unstoppable’, which Affleck co-produced but did not attend, marking her first public appearance since filing for divorce. Later on, though, the two were spotted at the Beverly Hills Hotel enjoying a family meal with their children.

In a video montage posted to Instagram in December, Lopez looked back on her year, including important events like the Met Gala and her movies. She took satisfaction in the way she overcame obstacles, saying she had discovered how to accept her feelings and go on.
