Jennifer Lopez Teases Her First Musical ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ at Sundance

Jennifer Lopez is making an appearance at the chilly Sundance Festival to provide a preview of her eagerly awaited new project, which is her first-ever film musical.
During a Los Angeles Times Talks series hosted by Chase Sapphire Reserve, the 55-year-old actress-singer talked about ‘Kiss of Spider Woman’ with director Bill Condon and costar Tonatiuh at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
Lopez revealed that she has never felt more like a part of a character than she did with the movie’s Ingrid Luna. She described how the idea of humanity and love-struck a deep chord with her own life, particularly her experiences as a mother. Lopez stressed how thrilled she was to play this role because it came so easily to her.
Diego Luna plays Valentin Arregui, a political prisoner during Argentina’s civil war in the 1980s, while Tonatiuh portrays Luis Molina, another prisoner by his side. The film is a retelling of the 1993 Tony Award-winning musical and the 1985 film ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’.

It was a dream come true for Lopez to perform the well-known songs of musical composers John Kander and Fred Ebb with director Condon, who is renowned for ‘Chicago’ and ‘Dreamgirls’. Despite having worked on the ‘Selena’ biopic, Lopez, who is also a producer on the movie, said this was her first time singing her voice in a musical.
Tonatiuh commended Lopez’s commitment, bringing up the hectic shoot schedule in which they would record a musical piece every day. Despite not having a year to rehearse, Lopez concurred that the difficulties of making the movie were worthwhile, particularly in the independent cinema industry, which she called a “labour of love.”

Lopez also emphasized the movie’s conventional methodology, as Condon sought to emulate the look of vintage musicals from the 1940s and 1950s, in which whole numbers were shot in a single frame. Lopez thought the procedure thrilling, even though it was exhausting.
According to the official Sundance Film Festival summary, ‘Kiss of the Spider-Woman’ is a historical and political thriller with the flair of an old Hollywood musical. Lopez’s performance as Luna/Aurora, which included her dance and singing abilities, is cited as a pivotal event in her career. Although there isn’t a distributor or release date for the movie yet, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity is one of the production companies involved.
