Jeremy Renner Turned Down ‘Hawkeye Season 2’ Over Pay Cut After Accident

Jeremy Renner revealed that money was the main reason he declined a possible second season of Marvel’s ‘Hawkeye’.

Renner disclosed that he was only paid half of what he was paid for the first season of the Disney+ series in a recent interview on the High Performance app, a snippet of which was posted on TikTok.  After everything he had gone through, he wondered why he would work for eight months at half the wage.

Known for his role as Clint Barton, the actor further conjectured that the offer would have been lower due to his survival of a horrific snowplow accident on New Year’s Day 2023.  After being run over, he joked that perhaps they believed he was only “half the Jeremy” he once was.  He went on to say that he responded to what he described as an offensive offer by telling them to “go fly a kite.”

Renner stated that he still loves the role and would have been delighted to come back despite the setback.  But he acknowledged that it might be for the best, given everything he’s physically been through.  He claimed that his body is probably relieved that he isn’t doing it at the moment.

Although a second season has never been confirmed, ‘Hawkeye’, which debuted in 2021 and costarred Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, was warmly welcomed by both critics and fans.

After suffering over 35 fractured bones in an accident at his Lake Tahoe home, Renner needed numerous operations.  He goes into great detail about the tragic event in his memoir ‘My Next Breath’, which was published on 29th April. He calls writing about it emotionally healing.  According to him, the trip serves as a reminder of the human spirit’s tenacity as well as the body’s vulnerability and adaptability.

Outside of the MCU, Renner will feature in ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’ and continues to work on the Paramount+ series ‘Mayor of Kingstown’, which has been renewed for a fourth season.
