Jesy Nelson On Why She Left Little Mix

Back in December 2020, Little Mix fans were shocked beyond belief when one of the band members, Jesy Nelson announced on her social media handle that she was leaving the group. She also released the statement that the decision had been made “after much consideration and with a heavy heart” but felt “it was necessary to protect her mental health.”

“I Was Bigger Than The Other Three”

Now 5 months after her departure from the band, the singer has opened up about what prompted her to make the decision and it’s heartbreaking for us to listen to.

“I was bigger than the other three, and there’s never really been that in a girl group.I was classed as the obese, fat one”, she shares. She also recounts a terrible experience she had while shooting the music video for Looming On The Horizon. During the shoot, she broke down on set “because I didn’t look how I wanted to look and I found it so hard to just be happy and enjoy myself”.

“I looked at the other three and they were having the time of their life,” she continued. “I get so jealous because I want to feel like that and enjoy it, because music is my passion. To have this dream and not be enjoying it because of what I look like, I knew wasn’t normal.”

Her former bandmates have offered their best possible support to Nelson during this difficult time. They also acknowledged that it  “an incredibly sad time” for their fans. However, the three have gone on to continue with the band and are gearing up for their tour in 2022.
