Jimmy Carter Awarded Posthumous 2025 Grammy for Audiobook Five Weeks After His Passing

The 2025 Grammy Awards featured a posthumous tribute to Jimmy Carter.

Five weeks after his death, the former president, who died in December 2024, received a Grammy for audiobook narration for ‘Last Sunday in Plains: A Centennial Celebration’.

Jason Carter, his grandson, accepted the honour on the deceased president’s behalf. Jason talked about how much his grandfather meant to him and thanked everyone for the kindness that poured out after Carter’s death. He also mentioned how important it is that Carter’s words be kept alive for his family and the rest of the world.

Jason highlighted his grandfather’s passion for music and described him as an artist in many respects, including as a painter, author, and more. Particularly with regard to the Grammys, Carter’s admiration for inventiveness was emphasized.

According to Jason, the project was especially significant because it included Carter’s last Sunday School lessons, which he had been teaching at his Plains, Georgia, church for more than 50 years. When Carter taught these lessons, he had no idea that they would be his last.

Carter’s lessons, Kabir Sehgal’s musical compositions, and performances by Jon Batiste, Darius Rucker, and LeAnn Rimes are all featured on the album. Carter was a humanitarian who won the Nobel Peace Prize before passing away at the age of 100.
