Jo Nesbø to Adapt His Bestselling Horror Novel For Film: What to Expect

Get ready, Jo Nesbø fans—a new adaptation of his novel ‘The Night House’ is in the works. According to a report from Deadline, the film is set to begin production next spring. Nesbø will collaborate with producer Frederik Wikström, known for his work with Tom Hanks on ‘A Man Called Otto’, to bring this horror story to life. Set in a small American town in the mid-1980s, ‘The Night House’ follows Richard, a recently orphaned boy sent to live with relatives in the remote town of Ballantyne. Richard’s life takes a bizarre turn when he witnesses one of his classmates being sucked through a phone receiver after a prank call.

The local authorities suspect Richard is responsible for the child’s disappearance, but only Karen, a fellow teen, believes his account. Together, they embark on a perilous journey to uncover the truth, battling dark magic and sinister forces while trying to prove Richard’s innocence. The film adaptation will be directed by Jesper Ganslandt, known for his work on the Netflix series ‘Snabba Cash’ and the 2019 thriller ‘438 Days’.

Excitement around Nesbø adaptations doesn’t stop there. Earlier this month, it was announced that Tom Hardy and Aaron Taylor-Johnson will star in another Nesbø adaptation, ‘Blood on Snow’, with Cary Fukunaga directing. Both actors are currently featured in top movies streaming on Peacock, including Hardy’s ‘The Bikeriders’ and Taylor-Johnson’s ‘The Fall Guy’. Additionally, ‘Prison Break’ star Peter Stormare will appear in an upcoming Nesbø project centered on Detective Harry Hole.
