Jodie Foster Wins First Emmy for ‘True Detective’

Jodie Foster won Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series or Movie at the 76th Annual Emmy Awards!

Jodie Foster won her first-ever Emmy Award for her role in ‘True Detective: Night Country’. This win came after four previous nominations. "This is an incredibly emotional moment for me," Foster shared, describing the HBO series as "a magical experience" and expressing her gratitude to Issa López, the creator of the show's fourth season.

In ‘True Detective: Night Country’, Foster portrayed Liz Danvers, a police chief in Alaska working to unravel the mystery of eight missing men from a research station. With this Emmy win, Foster is halfway to achieving EGOT status, having already won two Oscars for her performances in ‘The Accused’ and ‘The Silence of the Lambs’.

In her acceptance speech, Foster thanked the "incredible, incredibly Icelandic crew" of the show and her castmates, giving a special mention to her "partner in crime," Evangeline Navarro, who was also a nominee that night. She also expressed her appreciation for the Inupiaq and Inuit people of Northern Alaska, acknowledging their contributions to the project.

‘True Detective: Night Country’ became the most-watched season of the series, and HBO has already renewed it for a fifth season.

Foster, 61, previously described her character Liz as “kind of awful” and “damaged,” reflecting her struggle with grief and personal demons. In her Emmys speech, she also thanked her sons, Charlie and Kit, and her wife, Alexandra Hedison, and received support from fellow nominees Brie Larson, Juno Temple, Naomi Watts, and Sofía Vergara, each of whom had standout performances this year.

Larson, 34, stars as Elizabeth Zott in ‘Lessons in Chemistry’, a series about a chemist who becomes a cooking show host. Larson appreciated the chance to work on a project that combines sweetness with science.

Temple, 35, played Dorothy "Dot" Lyon in ‘Fargo’, a character who demonstrates remarkable resilience and survival skills.

Watts, 55, portrayed socialite Babe Paley in ‘Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans’, exploring the fallout from Truman Capote’s controversial writing.

Vergara, 52, channelled the infamous Griselda Blanco in Netflix’s ‘Griselda’, a role that required extensive transformation and received positive feedback from viewers.
