Katastro Drops New ‘Our Favourite Song’ Music Video Featuring Late Singer Andy Chaves

Andy Chaves, the late lead singer of Arizona-based alternative band Katastro, was known for writing songs about difficult relationships. But on one memorable day, Chaves wanted to do something different.

“Most of our songs were about Andy’s breakups and tough times with women,” recalls drummer Andrew Stravers. “But that day, he was in a good mood and said, ‘I want to write something sweet and genuine about a girl.’ I thought, ‘That’s nice. You should do that.’” And so, he did.

However, no one could have predicted that Chaves wouldn’t be around to perform the heartfelt song he’d begun writing. Just months later, Chaves tragically died in a car accident. The song, initially titled ‘Dancing’, remained unfinished.

After his funeral, Chaves’ family asked the band if they had any demos. “I played them the song,”

Stravers recalls. “It was only a minute and a half long, but the whole family went from crying to standing up and dancing. We played it about 15 times. That moment made it clear we had to finish it for the album and for his family.”

Completing the song was both a healing and painful process for the band. Stravers explains how working on the track, which now features Chaves’ vocals, helped the band cope with the immense loss. “Even if only a few people listen to it, the song served its purpose in helping us get through Andy’s death.”

This final album from Katastro is especially poignant, as it marks the last project the band will release together. “It’s bittersweet knowing we won’t be working on anything else with Andy,” says guitarist Tanner Riccio. “But it’s been healing to finish this album and share it with the world.”
