Kate Winslet Declares She’s ‘Different’ From Iconic Roles of ‘Rose And Tilly’

Kate Winslet is preparing for the release of Lee, a gripping war drama that explores the life of a remarkable woman. In a recent conversation with Times Radio, the actress delved into her upcoming role while reflecting on her beloved characters, Rose from ‘Titanic ‘and ‘Tilly’ from ‘The Dressmaker’.

Despite the significant impact these roles have had on pop culture, Winslet asserts that she bears little resemblance to the characters she portrays. “I’m different; I don’t think I’ve ever played anyone who's actually like me at all. It’s really bizarre,” she remarked. This distinction underscores her versatility as an actress and her ability to inhabit a wide range of personalities.

During the interview, Winslet described her past roles as “headstrong” and “gutsy.” She acknowledged that while she often seeks out similarities between herself and her characters, she finds it challenging to connect deeply with them. 

For instance, her portrayal of Mare Sheehan did not resonate with her personal experiences, leading her to invent much of the character’s identity. “I had a lot more defiance when I was younger,” she reflected, indicating a shift in her personal journey and the evolving culture within the film industry.

As she prepares to embody the character of Lee Miller—a Vogue model turned war photographer during World War II—Winslet feels a strong connection to Miller’s passion and determination. 

The film tells the inspiring story of a woman who defied societal norms to become an acclaimed war correspondent. With her extensive talent, Winslet is poised to bring this powerful narrative to life, showcasing yet another facet of her remarkable acting career.
