Ke Huy Quan Reveals Steven Spielberg Has Sent Him Holiday Gifts for 40 Years

For the past forty years, Steven Spielberg has sent Ke Huy Quan a holiday present each year.

Spielberg, who co-wrote ‘The Goonies’ and directed Quan in ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’, has never skipped a Christmas season when it comes to giving a considerate gift, Quan revealed during a recent visit on ‘Radio Andy’. Before a present arrives in the mail every year, Quan gets a call from the director’s assistant asking for his best mailing address.

Spielberg has frequently given gifts that are perfectly timed. Quan remembered times when he had his eye on a new device, only to discover that Spielberg had really sent it to him. Because this has occurred several times, the custom seems almost supernatural.

In a 2022 interview, the actor discussed Spielberg’s charity, saying that the renowned director has never forgotten him and has always been there for him when he needed assistance. Spielberg’s casting of a young Quan as Short Round in ‘Temple of Doom’, which launched his career, is the origin of their relationship. Later, he portrayed Data in another Spielberg film, ‘The Goonies’.

At the American Film Institute luncheon in January 2023, the two reconnected and gave one other a heartfelt embrace. In his Golden Globes acceptance speech for ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ that same month, Quan praised Spielberg for providing him with his first Hollywood break.

During his hand and footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre, Quan recently reconnected with his fellow ‘Goonies’ cast members, including Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, and Corey Feldman. Brolin spoke to Quan as a real embodiment of the American dream and commended his tenacity and accomplishments.

On Valentine’s Day, Quan’s most recent movie, ‘Love Hurts’, will be released in theatres, capping off his incredible Hollywood return.
