Keanu Reeves ‘Aching’ to Return as Constantine; Director Teases Sequel After 20 Years

Keanu Reeves can’t wait to reprise his role as John Constantine.
On the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, the 60-year-old actor recently reconnected with ‘Constantine’ director Francis Lawrence to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first movie and provide updates on the eagerly anticipated follow-up.
According to Reeves and Lawrence, a script is presently being written, and once it is complete, they are confident the project will proceed. Lawrence, who has been amenable to a follow-up since the initial film’s 2005 release, clarified that Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ leadership changes have been significant obstacles. They have persisted in calling for the movie’s revival in spite of these obstacles.
Reeves stated that he is more than eager to bring the sardonic exorcist back to the big screen and that he has a strong desire to play the part again.

Rekindling interest in a sequel has been largely attributed to Constantine’s expanding cult following. Lawrence also cited Reeves’ 2021 appearance on Stephen Colbert’s ‘The Late Show’, in which the actor acknowledged that John Constantine would be his first pick if he could go back in time and play any previous role.
With Lawrence directing once more and Reeves reprising his role as the demon-hunting antihero, the sequel was formally revealed in 2022. Goldsman, Akiva, is writing the script.
Although narrative specifics are still unknown, Lawrence disclosed that he, Reeves, and Goldsman have been actively exchanging ideas and are nearing a finished draft of the script. They think they are finally in a position to make the sequel a reality and are thrilled about what lies ahead.
Reeves is excited to bring ‘Constantine’ back to life and finds it exciting just to talk about him again.
