Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock remain close friends, much to the delight of fans eager to see them reunite on screen after their success in ‘Speed’ and ‘The Lake House’. At a recent event celebrating the 30th anniversary of ‘Speed’ as part of Beyond Fest, the duo reconnected with director Jan de Bont. Naturally, fans jumped at the opportunity to ask about the possibility of a third ‘Speed’ movie.
Bullock, who starred in the less successful ‘Speed 2: Cruise Control’, joked that a potential ‘Speed 3’ would be “the geriatric version” and “wouldn’t be fast,” while Reeves suggested it could revolve around retirement. De Bont acknowledged that the film would need to be very different but expressed enthusiasm for working with Bullock and Reeves again.

However, Bullock tempered expectations, admitting that the chances of ‘Speed 3’ happening are slim due to the current state of Hollywood. She even questioned whether de Bont would be allowed to direct such a film, though she praised his vision, saying he was the one who had the energy and insight to create the original. She also wondered if the industry today would be bold enough to take on such a project.
Despite the uncertainties, Bullock, Reeves, and de Bont are clearly fond of the original ‘Speed’ and the impact it had on their careers. Both stars have gone on to achieve major success, and de Bont went on to direct ‘Twister’, another iconic film. While the future of ‘Speed 3’ remains unclear, fans can still enjoy the original ‘Speed’ on Disney+.
