Kelly Clarkson performed 'California Dreamin'', a 1965 song by The Mamas & the Papas, during her most recent Kellyoke event, bringing all the cozy and eerie fall vibes with her.
She opened the song with a line that is ideal for a November afternoon: "All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray / I've been for a walk on a winter's day / I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A."
Clarkson, who wore a flowing blue dress, was accompanied on the melancholic melody by her bandmates, Jason Halbert and Jaco Caraco on piano and guitar, respectively.
'The Mamas & The Papas' made the song popular in 1965, however, it was initially written by John Phillips and Michelle Phillips and recorded by Barry McGuire. Their cover of 'California Dreamin'' peaked at No. 4 in 1966 and spent 17 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Almost 50 years later, in 2016, German DJ Freischwimmer topped the Dance Club Songs chart with a house version of the classic.

Three other renditions of the track went on to hit the Hot 100: by Bobby Womack (No. 43, 1969), America (No. 56, 1979) and the Beach Boys (No. 57, 1986). Various other performers who have added their renditions of 'California Dreamin'', to other Billboard charts include Diana Krall and Sia.
