Kendrick Lamar States That Music Isn’t his “End Goal”

Kendrick Lamar has shared insights about his future in music and his “end goal.” In a recent conversation with SZA for Harper’s Bazaar, the two artists reflected on their futures, aspirations, and a variety of other topics. When SZA asked Lamar about his plans for the future in his highly acclaimed career, he responded by saying that he doesn’t view music as his true calling.

He explained that he finds fulfillment in sharing his experiences with younger generations, allowing them to hear his stories and learn from them. He said that communication with people is what matters most to him. He emphasized that his work in music is just the beginning, stating that he doesn’t consider it to be his end goal. He affirmed that he knows it’s not his end goal. Music is just a vessel to get him there.

Regarding his future, Lamar admitted he is still exploring what he’s meant to do, but he is on a quest for knowledge. He mentioned that his curiosity keeps him energized and that he wants to gather all the information and resources available. He said that he wishes to meet people who are smarter than him, engage with them, and learn from them. He expressed a desire to be fulfilled by whatever the world has to offer, stating that this pursuit excites him and that he considers himself “a total nerd for it.”

The conversation between Kendrick Lamar and SZA comes shortly after SZA hinted that a new album from Lamar is on the way. As a close friend and frequent collaborator, she shared a post on social media suggesting he is preparing to release new music. Devin Malik, associated with Top Dawg Entertainment and a collaborator of Kendrick, also posted, “Mood cause new K Dot album otwwww.” SZA later reshared this post, lending credence to the rumours.

Lamar’s last album, ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’, was released in 2022. Since then, he has dropped a few singles, all directed at Drake as part of their ongoing feud from earlier this year. Recently, Lamar made a significant impact at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, winning eight out of his 11 nominations, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, and Lyricist of the Year, among others.
