Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun Ignite Post-Apocalyptic Romance in Exclusive ‘Love Me’ Trailer
In their new movie, ‘Love Me’, Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun offer a fresh take on love, demonstrating that passion doesn’t have to be human.
In PEOPLE’s exclusive first trailer, the two Oscar nominees portray star-crossed lovers exploring a post-apocalyptic Earth. Yeun, 41, plays a satellite orbiting the planet who becomes Iam and then Liam, while Stewart, 34, plays a highly developed ocean buoy who takes on the names Me and Deja.
The film, which was written and directed by Sam and Andy Zuchero, a husband and wife combination, examines the idea of life and love in a world where people have vanished. The plot follows a buoy and a satellite who cross paths online long after humans have gone extinct, according to a synopsis provided by distributor Bleecker Street. They start to comprehend who they are and what it means to be alive and in love as they learn more about what life was like on Earth.

The Zucheros outlined their goals for the film, stating that they wanted to tell a tale that both made viewers feel “big and small.” The movie follows two artificial intelligence (AI)–powered devices as they transform from virtual avatars into fully formed human beings.
“This is how life forms make friends,” says Stewart’s buoy character as she describes her investigation of human leftover internet data in the teaser. Puzzled, Yeun’s satellite responds, “Well, I’m not sure I’m following.” Deja jokingly says, “Let’s move in together,” at one point.
As two-dimensional animated characters, Deja and Liam coexist digitally throughout the story and finally create a virtual world together. They eventually become three-dimensional replicas of a couple who were formerly on Earth. The Zucheros discovered that the novel was ultimately a love story about their own relationship, despite their initial inspiration being the notion of artificial intelligence inheriting a post-human planet.

According to them, ‘Love Me’ is a reflection of contemporary society, emphasizing how disconnected people feel even though they have a strong desire to connect. The conflict between people’s real identities and the personas they present is explored in the movie.
The filmmakers conveyed their appreciation for Stewart and Yeun’s contributions, characterizing them as genuine partners who gave their all to the project. They conveyed their profound admiration for the players’ artistry and thanked them for helping them as inexperienced directors.
‘Love Me’ will hit theatres on 31st January following its 2024 Sundance Film Festival premiere.
