Lady Gaga, No.1 Female Artist of 2020
Lady Gaga is here to claim her much deserved crown. ‘Chromatica’ has landed on Billboard’s No. 1 making this her sixth album to land on this spot. Also what this means is something phenomenal. Lady Gaga is the biggest female pop star of 2020 with album sales equivalent to 274,000. Four other male artists have celebrated bigger victories this year but Gaga is the only female on that list.
The other top artists of 2020 having made bigger splashes on the Billboard charts are The Weeknd’s After Hours (444,000), BTS’ Map of the Soul: 7 (422,000), Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake (288,000) and Eminem’s Music to Be Murdered By (279,000).
The album that was originally supposed to be out on April 10th. But of course, like the rest of the world, things changed and Lady Gaga got caught up in the crisis that is COVID-19. She created the ‘One World: Together At Home’ concert in the same month.
Finally ‘Chromatica’ dropped on May 29 via Interscope Records. The lead single ‘Stupid Love’ peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard charts and the much awaited collaboration, ‘Rain On Me’ with Ariana Grande made it to No.1 on June 6th.
Lady Gaga has other hits in the past with ‘A Star Is Born’ in 2019, ‘Joanne’ (2016), ‘Cheek to Cheek’ (2014), Artpop (2013) and ‘Born This Way’ (2011) all of which hit No. 1 in the respective years and quite elegantly mark Lady Gaga’s rise and climb up to ‘Chromatica’.
