Lady Gaga Confesses Struggles With Letting go of Acting Roles

Lady Gaga has a deep emotional connection with the characters she portrays in films, which often lingers long after filming ends. In the upcoming sequel ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’, she steps into the role of Harleen ‘Lee’ Quinzel, better known as Harley Quinn.

As an Arkham State Hospital patient, Lee becomes increasingly obsessed with Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck, also known as the Joker, leading to their unique, musical expressions of madness.

When asked if she was able to leave her character behind after filming, Gaga candidly shared, “I didn’t, really.” However, she clarified, “I didn’t bring her home with me, for sure.” This sentiment reflects her history of falling in love with the characters she embodies, from Lee to Ally in ‘A Star Is Born’ and Patrizia Reggiani in ‘House of Gucci’. She explained, “You fall in love with the characters that you play. I always have, anyway.”

In discussing her role as Ally, Gaga previously mused, “I wonder how long she’ll stay. Or if she’ll be in there forever.” Her dedication to her roles has been evident; for A Star Is Born, she transformed herself physically, even dressing as Ally and dyeing her hair to match.

With House of Gucci, she committed to staying in character for over nine months, stating, “It’s very important to me that when I’m on screen, people don’t feel like it’s me the whole time. I think that would be very distracting.”

Despite occasionally struggling to detach from her roles, Gaga reassures fans, saying, “But I’m in a new place.” This new chapter includes her engagement to businessman Michael Polansky and the anticipation of two upcoming albums: the companion album to ‘Folie à Deux’, titled ‘Harlequin’, and her seventh studio album, referred to as “LG7.”
