Liam Payne had been grappling with challenges related to his ex-fiancée, Maya Henry, in the time leading up to his tragic death on 16th October at age 31. A source told PEOPLE that Payne felt “extremely overwhelmed” by the legal matters surrounding Henry.
According to the Daily Mail, Henry, 23, had issued a cease-and-desist order to Payne last week, claiming that he continued to contact her. The former couple had been engaged before ending their relationship in 2022.

In a TikTok posted in early October, Henry alleged that her ex, whom she didn’t name but referenced in connection with “One Direction fans,” frequently called her from various numbers and even emailed her. She also claimed that Payne contacted her mother and friends, intending to have them visit him. Henry further accused Payne of using One Direction fans against her, saying he told her they would stay loyal and not expose his behaviour.
Payne passed away after falling several stories at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires recently. Argentine authorities confirmed his death and an investigation is underway, with an autopsy pending. He is survived by his 7-year-old son, Bear Grey, whom he shares with ex-partner Cheryl, a former member of Girls Aloud.
