Live-Action ‘Gundam’ Movie Receives a Massive New Update

With its first live-action movie, the ‘Mobile Suit Gundam’ franchise, which has enthralled viewers for more than 40 years, is growing its universe. GamesRadar+ has confirmed that the project, which was first announced in 2018, has passed an important milestone with the formal commencement of production. Alongside Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc., Legendary Entertainment, the production company behind ‘Dune’, will co-produce and co-finance the movie.

The news has been released since Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks formalized their partnership agreement in late January. Under the terms of the deal, the newly formed business Bandai Namco Filmworks America will be in charge of overseeing the ‘Gundam’ series management outside of Japan and attempting to increase its brand awareness. In April 2025, this North American subsidiary is scheduled to begin operations.

‘Gundam’, a globally renowned brand that includes a variety of animated programs, movies, and even well-liked plastic model kits, was created by Yoshiyuki Tomino.

The live-action movie has been provisionally titled ‘GUNDAM’, but there are still few facts available about it, such as its premise and release date. Since its release, the movie has changed directors and parted ways with popular OTT, among other things. Jordan Vogt-Roberts was originally slated to direct the movie, while Brian K. Vaughan was to write and executive produce it. The project, however, left OTT by October 2024, and Jim Mickle, the showrunner of ‘Sweet Tooth’, was hired as both director and writer. His partner, Linda Moran, produced through their business, Nightshade.
